Cask Ale

Once the ubiquitous beer serve of England, cask ale has suffered something of an identity crisis and image problem in recent years. Our cask ales are a celebration of this once mighty and revered tradition, with a more than healthy nod to the skills required for cask conditioning and cellar management. To many people beer is just beer, but of course it isn’t; beer is layered, complex, nuanced and specific to an occasion and a mood. In our view, nothing reflects this better than cask ale, so cask ales have a name that has a hidden meaning that both categorises the beer and potentially the mood you might be in when drinking it.

You have to be a bit of a nerd to get the best out of cask ale. We celebrate nerdiness in our ales, at the same time we don’t want to scare people off.

At Chevallier, we feel the beer should accompany the chat, not the other way round; the liquid, the branding, the stories – BRUHA is the refresh of a very old story.

It’s the one thing you can’t buy in a shop and then replicate in the home. When people talk of the ‘craft beer revolution’, they conveniently overlook the fact that Britain has the oldest and richest craft beer culture in the world; it’s called cask ale, and when done well, my goodness it is hard to beat. We aspire to that in every pint.

CUPSHOT. Old English – “Mildly intoxicated without being drunk.” A light contemporary bitter late hopped with Jester and Harlequin, rounded easy drinker.
NIKSUN PALE 3.9%
NIKSUN. Dutch – “The art of doing nothing well.” Session pale ale dry hopped with Citra and Centennial; moreish with a long hoppy finish.
YUGEN RUBY 3.9%
YUGEN. Japanese: "A profound and mysterious sense of the beauty and awareness of the universe that triggers a deep emotional response." Soft fruity red ale with raisin and fig malt palate and subtle aroma of blackcurrant from Jester hops.

Light golden ale dry hopped with El Dorado giving a tropical character.

A rich stout, smooth on the palate with notes of chocolate, oak and cedar.
